One is Greater than Zero

So recently I released a youtube video that was analytically speaking terrible. Meaning every metric that youtube uses to measure how good a video does to put it in front of your subscribers and others was lower than my usual average. So as a content creator this makes you think that this video did not fulfill its intended purpose.

Leading to a series of questioins that I start to ask myself:

  • Was the effort put into creating the video worth it?

  • Should I have done something differently?

  • Should I just delete the video altogether and start over?

Which are all good questions, but one thing I like to do before I pull the plug is to ask myself:

Was this video useful?

This is an important question because it is not possible that everyone is going to find every video that I make useful. But if I am able to be happy with the end product then that is all that matters. My main goal with my channel is to make videos that the past version of myself could have utilized in their life as well as chronicle my life so others can follow along with my journey. So instead of trying to focus on getting the most amount of views or subscribers from every video, I like to watch a video by Gary V called One is Greater Than Zero

In the video, Gary talks about the idea of Depth vs. Width. This is a different perspective that I think is valuable for anyone that is trying to do something impactful. It is so easy to focus on generating the biggest fan base through having a lot of views but it is even more important to focus on the purpose of the content in the first place. Through providing the means to help one person then you will help many in the process. If one person benefits from watching a video of mine that is all that matters.
